Tyre Pressure
- Ensuring your tyres are inflated to the correct tyre pressure is very important, inflating your tyres to much can cause excessive wear to your tyres, can cause more damage when driving over pot holes and much more. Underinflated tyres can cause a lot of problems, the main effect is the tyres lifespan which will decrease much faster, also an underinflated tyre will affect the fuel consumption and car handling. It’s very important to follow the tyre pressure recommended by the manufacture of the vehicle. A tyre pressure that is under 20 PSI is considered a flat tyre. It is dangerous to drive with such low pressure as there is a risk of a tyre blowout. Having your tyres inflated as soon as the pressure decreases under 30 PSI to prevent any accident is very important.
Tyre Balance
- Making sure the balancing of your tyres is correct is critical to long lasting tyres, when tyres are not balanced correctly it effects the tread wearing evenly on your tyres. What can cause your tyres to become unbalanced? A lot can cause this: Turning, hitting bumps, uneven road surfaces and pot holes. Fixing the issues is as simple as adjusting the tyre pressure, or attaching special wheel weights. Wheel weights are used by attaching them to a specific location on the wheel that counterbalances the weight. All it takes it 15 grams of uneven weight to disturb the vibration of your drive.
Tyre Rotation
- Having your tyres rotated is important to keeping the longevity to your tyres, it is recommended to rotate you tyres every 10,000km – 15,000km to make sure they wear evenly, this is usually the time frame to have your booked in for a service also. It’s important to understand that the front two tyres will wear much faster than the rear two tyres, that’s why rotating them will even out the tyre wear. It’s very easy to tell when your tyres need a rotation as you will be able to visibly see the tread, wearing un evenly.
